Supergirl is now getting her own TV Series, it will be produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Andrew Kreisberg of The Flash and Arrow.
The CBS drama is relatively new efforts to scheme outside endeavors, far from its standard crime bureaucratic comfort zone. CBS is plunging into the superhero genre, which has made a significant success in both films and over the last few years at its TV competitors, specifically CBS is younger than CW, its sister network. The question whether viewers of Criminal Minds and NCIS will accept the network penetrating the DC Comics territory, CBS won't confirm if the show will air during fall or midseason, although, it is speculated that the announcement will be in New York next week.
The Supergirl TV series marks the third superhero project for Berlanti, although the Arrow-Flash sequel will probably tip that number up to four, Supergirl will be released next season. The one-hour series is just a project in a long line based on comic books either currently running or coming on TV. For its part, Warner Bros. Gotham, Arrow and The Flash already extended, while iZombie entered in the midseason, is doing very well.
On the other hand, Constantine, has burned down all the ratings, although, it's still officially under negotiation for next season after it was cancelled by NBC. CBS also has Lucifer and Titans in competition at other television networks. As for Marvel, ABC will possibly extend Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, while the fate of the Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood and Agent Carter starring S.H.I.E.L.D spin-off are still on air. At the same time, Netflix also airs Luke Cage, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and The Defenders (a subsequent team-up project)
Although, Supergirl is set to air on CW's mother network, Berlanti has already on record to say that the heroine is in the similar universe as the emerald archer and scarlet speedster so viewers could be in for a remarkable crossover/cross network with Arrow and The Flash and perhaps a superhero spin-off collaboration. The series also stars David Harewood, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh and Calista Flockhard, while Helen Slater, Laura Benanti and Dean Cain will be the guest stars in the pilot episode.
Though Supergirl will be airing on The CW's parent network, Berlanti has already gone on record to say that the heroine exists in the same universe as the scarlet speedster and emerald archer, so we could be in for an epic cross-network crossover with The Flash and Arrow-and the superhero team-up spin-off, should it move forward. The series also stars Mehcad Brooks, Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh and David Harewood, while Laura Benanti, Dean Cain and Helen Slater are among the pilot's guest stars.
