Final Fantasy Dissidia Arcade Edition is being developed in collaboration by Square-Enix and Koei Tecmo Games slated to be released Fall 2015 in Japan. The ones developing this game is Team Ninja, a Tecmo game development studio best known for their Ninja Gaiden series, hence their studio name. Team Ninja also developed the fighting game franchise, Dead or Alive, which also shares the same genre as the Final Fantasy Dissidia series.
The Final Fantasy Dissidia series started in the PlayStation Portable, and its newest entry will be available in arcade cabinets that use the PS4 hardware and tech also collaborating with Sony Computer Entertainment of Japan Asia. The layout of the controls also employs the classic PlayStation buttons. The director of Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade Edition is Takeo Kujiraoka, music composer is Takeharu Ishimoto, and the character design is by the series veteran Tetsuya Nomura.
Gameplay of Final Fantasy Dissidia Arcade Edition revolves around 3 vs 3 party arena action-fighting. The foundations of the core mechanics are based on the previous PlayStation Portable titles. There is a summon system, over 50 characters to be included, and the promise of constant patches for adding new characters, stages, music, summons, customization parts, gameplay systems, and balancing.
In the Dissidia Final Fantasy Closed Conference that was held by Square Enix at The Garden Hall in Ebisu's The Garden Palace back in the game's initial announcement, Tetsuya Nomura appeared and announces Ramza from Final Fantasy Tactics will be joining the roster. However, Ramza will not be included in the initial line up but rather to be added later as an update. Some of the announced characters include the first Final Fantasy title's Warrior of Light, Final Fantasy 3's Onion Knight, Final Fantasy 6's Terra Branford, the famous Cloud Strife of Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy 13's Lightning and, this time Final Fantasy 14 will have its representative in Y'shtola.
This game is expected to be exclusive in the arcades for at least a year after its release date before the publishers Square-Enix and Koei Tecmo will consider porting over the title into the home consoles. There is a strong indication that Dissidia Final Fantasy would be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 given the heavy involvement of Sony Entertainment of Japan Asia.
