The half hour comedy, Last Man Standing, is now officially coming back for its fifth season, but changes are expected to be on the way. Last Man Standing was actually the last one on the list of ABC series to be renewed for the 2015-2016 season.
The show, starring Tim Allen, has done quite well for itself in its Friday night slot, pulling in a modest 1.8 rating amongst adults in the 18-49 year old demographic, and an overall haul of around 8.2 million viewers, according to the Boston Herald.
Despite getting the greenlight for a fifth season, Last Man Standing is not heading into the new TV year without at least some changes. Of most significance is the new showrunner assigned to the show, in the person of Matt Berry. Berry has ties to the show, working as a co-executive producer for the most recent fourth season, according to Deadline.
Berry also has significant experience in and around the television industry, working on other notable shows such as Devious Maids and Desperate Housewives. Berry will be supplanting Tim Doyle as Last Man Standing's head honcho. Doyle had been the showrunner for three seasons before his departure.
Another change which could affect Last Man Standing comes in the form of its new hourly neighbor, with the show Dr. Ken now set into the Friday night 8:30 slot for ABC. Last Man Standing will remain in its original timeslot of 8:00 p.m. for ABC, according to Coming Soon. The expected Friday night primetime lineup for ABC is now expected to feature Last Man Standing leading off at 8, followed by Dr. Ken, Shark Tank airing at 9 p.m. and 20/20 closing at 10 p.m.
Last Man Standing will join other returning ABC comedies when it comes back for its fifth season, according to Ace Showbiz.
Other shows that were renewed include Black-ish, Fresh off the Boat, and the mega hit Modern Family.
