Anheuser-Busch InBev and the United States Department of Justice are in negotiation to settle the former's acquisition of Mexico's Group Modelo, according to sources.
On February 14, AB InBev came up with a new deal to address concerns leading the government to file a lawsuit in an attempt to block the purchase deal.
According to one person familiar with matter, the way that InBev sold Labbatt USA to clear its acquisition of Anheuser-Busch for $52 billion in 2009 is similar to the sale of a Modelo brewery supplying the American market to Constellation Brands.
The lawsuit filed by the government was delayed by a federal judge's ruling after the two parties requested to discuss the settlement.
AB InBev spokesman declined to provide feedback on the issue, while official at DOJ was not available to comment.
