After 6 seasons, Nina Dobrev leaves The Vampire Diaries, most likely putting a permanent end to Elena and Damon (Delena) love story. Over the past few weeks, Dobrev has been posting Polaroid pictures of her and cast members, all to save all her memories while doing the show.
"I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six-season adventure, and within those six years I got a journey of a lifetime," Dobrev wrote in her Instagram account. She leaves with co-star Michael Trevino who played as Tyler Lockwood
But one thing that's intriguing about her leaving is the fact that she leaves a season after her ex-boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder, who happened to be her love-interest in the series, got engaged to Nikki Reid. While doing the show, Dobrev and Somerhalder dated for a few years and broke up in May 2013. Even if the two broke up, their characters Elena and Damon remained together in the series which, according to reports, went well because the two remained to be great friends even after the break up. But Hollywoodlife says Dobrev is leaving the show because it became "too awkward" to be working with Somerhalder. Reports even say that Somerhalder told her not to leave TVD, but Nina has obviously made up her mind.
Dobrev's Instagram seem to be saying otherwise. During her final days of shooting for the series, Dobrev posted several photos of her with different people, mostly cast members. Among those pictures were a photo of her and Somerhalder, and a photo of them filming their last Delena scene, and nothing in the said photos seem to say that they're awkward around each other.
Fans are now curious as to how the show will go on without Elena. The show's executive producer Julie Plec told Tvguide that Elena's exit will be nostalgic and beautiful. " There's a whole sequence, essentially the last two acts of the show, where we found an elegant and graceful and beautiful way to weave the goodbyes for Elena all the way through every character on the show who has loved her through the years. I'm a big sap and I'm obviously biased, but it's incredibly beautiful and very nostalgic and sweet and sad and a really terrific 12 minutes of television." Plec said in the interview.
Dobrev is reportedly excited about what's next for her after the series. "It's been great and I'm so grateful to have been a part of it and now it's time for me, Nina, to get to go off and live my human life," she said in her interview with Tvguide.
Dobrev is currently on a "road trip" with her friends across the US.
