The San Antonio Spurs are a famously secretive organization when it comes to any and all moves they may be looking to make, but that appears to be changing because of LaMarcus Aldridge.
Rumors currently circling around the NBA suggest that the Spurs are now currently looking into a possible trade involving either Boris Diaw or Tiago Splitter in order to free up the cap room needed to make a max offer to impending free agent LaMarcus Aldridge, according to Crossmap. Both Diaw and Splitter were part of the 2014 Spurs team that won the NBA title, and they were also part of the 2015 squad that was just recently eliminated from the postseason after dropping game 7 of their first round series to the Los Angeles Clippers.
If the rumors are indeed true, then even just the fact that heresay is building around it is a stark departure from how the Spurs usually operate. This is the same team that routinely catches even the most seasoned NBA reporter off guard with the roster moves they routinely make.
Truthfully, even if the Spurs never officially confirm the rumors are true until a deal actually happens, the team signing Aldridge does make a lot of sense. Aldridge, who along with his team, the Portland Trailblazers, was also eliminated in the first round of the playoffs this year, and he has been mum about any plans to either stay with the team or move elsewhere.
It's not just Aldridge's perceived desire to move that makes the San Antonio signing plausible. Aldridge is also a native Texan, and the idea of coming home to play for a highly-successful franchise figures to be a good deal, according to Bleacher Report.
The Spurs also have their own free agents to worry about, especially with their young star Kawhi Leonard in need of a new deal, but he may not be the Spur most likely to leave town. According to Fox Sports, Spurs guard Danny Green presents the most unpredictable situation for the team, and that his departure would not be too surprising.
In any case, it looks like it will be an offseason of big changes for the San Antonio Spurs.
