The British soul singer Sam Smith has been diagnosed with a vocal cords hemorrhage. This forced him to cancel his tour dates. He will be back performing until he's fully healed.
'Stay with Me' singer got the bad news while on tour in Australia, where all his upcoming shows have now been canceled, including a scheduled appearance Sunday night at the TV industry's annual Logie Awards. Apart from it, his tours in Hordern Pavilion, Sydney (April 28), Margaret Court Arena, Melbourne (April 30), AEC Theatre, Adelaide, SA (May 1) and HBF Stadium (May 4) were forced to cancel after he has been diagnosed.
Last week, it was reported that he had to go undergo vocal cord surgery. And the latest update revealed that the singer made it through the surgery today.
Smith, who underwent the procedure to repair a hemorrhage on his vocal cords, tweeted that he's "flying" after waking up from the operation.
"Just woken up from op," he tweeted. "I'm high on pain killers and listening to Whitney Houston hahahahaha."
Sam Smith has also revealed that he is under doctor's orders to not speak for the next few weeks, after undergoing an surgery for his vocal cords. The Stay With Me singer told fans he would not be able to use his voice for 21 days after his throat surgery.
He even compared himself to Disney character Ariel from The Little Mermaid, who lost her voice to sea witch Ursula. Smith previously posted through his Twitter account: "Enjoying my last day of speaking. After today no speaking for three weeks. So if you see me on the streets sorry if you think I'm a d***head and can't say hello."
The Grammy Award winner has recently spoken about his split from brief boyfriend Jonathan Zeizal last month. Despite dating for two months Sam still feels he hasn't had a real boyfriend and has learned some valuable lessons from the whole experience.
