The fans of Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd might still be heartbroken and upset in his character's tragic death in the medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" but they aren't the only ones feeling shocked as the cast also feels the same seeing Patrick Dempsey's exit on the show.

After airing for almost a decade now, "Grey's Anatomy" has already seen many characters exit the show but it is still heartbreaking when one of its lead characters like Patrick Dempsey decides to leave for good. Aside from its fans, one of the most affected people in Dempsey's exit is his co-stars.

"It's so sad," Sarah Drew, who plays Dr. April Kepner, said. "McDreamy's such a part of our family, and he really created the energy of that show. We're so sad to see him gone, but we're really happy for Patrick, and we know that we don't have to actually mourn him because we know that he's actually still with us."

Dempsey's character was involved in a car crash accident which put him coma. His character was then surprisingly killed after Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) made the decision to turn off his life machine.

"Derek was a beloved character on Grey's Anatomy. We will miss that character," Kelly McCreary who plays the role of Maggie Pierce, shared. "We'll miss the love story between him and Meredith. We're really looking forward to seeing how Meredith grows and changes and transforms and how all the doctors in the hospital react to a core member of their team being lost."

Despite the gut-wrenching onscreen death of Patrick Dempsey's character, his co-stars are still happy for the new opportunities now that he's already off-screen.

"We're sad to say goodbye to Patrick but we're so happy for him," Drew said. "If you follow him on Twitter you know that he's enjoying time with his kids and he's racing and he's having a ball. So we're so happy for him to move on."

Dempsey's exit, though heartbreaking, is not the first time an original character left the show. It is known that regular cast Katherine Heigl, T.R. Knight, Isaiah Washington and Sandra Oh also did the same before.

Meanwhile, now that Dr. Shepherd is already gone, how will Meredith cope up with the loss of a loved one?
