Trent Reznor Turns 50: What The Future Holds For Industrial Rock Genius And Nine Inch Nails

By

To most people, Trent Reznor may have only known to be the lead singer of the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, but as his accomplishments are expanding, he has become one of the geniuses in the industry. And as he turns 50 today, it's not a doubt that some things may change in his current career: what does the future store for his rock band? What will he embark for the future to this point? Let's take a peek at his greatest achievements so far and look back on his life before prominence.

The now 50 years old Trent Reznor is mostly known for being the lead singer of the band Nine Inch Nails. Apart from venturing into the music industry, he has also reinvented himself as an Oscar-winning score creator. The first one he had was back in 2010 with the film "The Social Network." He and Atticus Ross, composer and arranger for Nine Inch Nails' seventh studio album "The Slip," were asked by producer David Fincher to write the score for "The Social Network." To give a brief fact, a film score is a music written specifically for a film. Using Reznor's talent for creating abstract soundscapes, the duo won an Oscar award as the "Best Original Score."

The frontman's stroke of luck didn't stop there though. Charting their first Oscar win, Reznor and Ross returned for a film score for the mystery thriller film "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" in 2011. The score won a Grammy award and has been nominated in different award-giving bodies. Lastly, never giving it up, the two teamed up again for another Fincher score in 2014's psychological thriller film "Gone Girl." However, this time, it was only nominated for a Grammy award.

Digging deeper, Trent Reznor also has some knack in acting. In earlier times when he was in high school, he actually played as Judas in a school performance of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and was voted as the best actor by his drama class. And if you think you're hopeless now and moping about how your life is wretched, the lead singer also became a night janitor in a recording studio. That was his first step to give birth to Nine Inch Nails. Eventually, the rest is history. From successful albums, taxing controversies and married life.

By reaching 50 years old, the singer's health may not be unwavering. During his interview with Billboard last year, Reznor expressed his little weariness on hitting the road with his band and wondered if he could still do another tour. "I don't see any full-fledged rock extravaganza happening maybe ever, certainly not for the next several years," he said. "Being onstage alone or with a string quartet, in a theater, it's not right around the corner," the Apple Beats executive admitted. So does this mean no more live tours to be held? Or is he just taking a breather?

When asked how does it feel turning 50, he had told that it's a bit of a scary thing. "It's with some sense of dread," he stressed. "I saw something on TV, 'If you're age 50 to 74, apply now...' -- I'm like, 'F---, I'm in that?'" The frontman must be emphasizing some kind of program like an old-age insurance, doesn't he? Anyhow, it's not too late.

Meanwhile, he was reported to be relaunching Apple Beats Music app with several of Apple and Beats employees including co-founder Jimmy Iovine. He also made headlines in April for bidding his Beverly Hills home for $4.495 million. Reznor is married to Mariqueen Maandig, 33. He has two young sons namely: Lazarus Echo and Balthazar, ages 4 and 2.
