A new storyline focusing on lots of time traveling could be what's in store for The Flash if the season one finale is any indication. In the finale, Barry Allen, also known as The Flash, is finally able to confront his arch nemesis, the Reverse-Flash, also known as Harrison Wells and Eobard Thawne.
In the episode, Allen is able to learn why Thawne saw it fit to murder his mother, and the reason, as it turns out, is because of decades old rivalry between the two, albeit one The Flash was unaware of previously. Thawne explains that he hails from the future, and that all he's done for Allen so far has been building up to him finally exacting his desired revenge. Thawne stops short of saying anything more, even failing to detail just exactly how the two of them became such bitter enemies.
According to Cinema Blend, the talk about future timelines and unresolved hatred could all be brewing to a storyline encompassing multiple points in history via time travel. This could all indeed be leading to The Flash and Reverse-Flash dueling through numerous timezones, in a somewhat Dr. Who-inspired bit of storytelling.
While this storyline is but a mere possibility at the moment, one that is confirmed is that two new character are getting superpowers ahead of the show's second season. According to Entertainment Weekly, the finale also hinted at Caitlin Snow finally getting closer to being reintroduced in the show as Killer Frost. Her newly superpowered character is likely to be a significant part of the show's second season.
As for Cisco Ramon, he had been outed as possessing his own kind of superpowers. He will take on the identity of Vibe, a being capable of switching between different dimensions and timelines, according to Christian Today. Fans will now have to wait to see how all the new developments play out when season two of The Flash premieres.
