GungHo Online Entertainment America announces the release of Grandia 2 via Steam for Windows PC in GameSpot as a result of "enthusiastic" support they received from a customer survey they conducted in April. The 2000 RPG Grandia 2 will be the first RPG game to have an HD remaster on PC along with some additions from Steam.
GungHo Online Entertainment America confirms a redistribution of Grandia 2 HD, which will be available through Valve's Steam platform for Windows PC. Grandia 2 was first released in 2000 on the Dreamcast, which still continues to be in the second spot for most popular RPG, next to Skies of Arcadia. The publisher stated that the highly positive survey responses they received in April made them decide to push for the game's remake.
Publisher GungHo Entertainment and developer Game Arts has been partners since 2004. The survey GungHo conducted last month had some questions about interest on PC games but emphasized more on Game Arts properties, creator of well-known JRPG series Grandia and Lunar. GungHo says that they were overwhelmed with the customers' responses to remaster Grandia 2. Thus, the publisher chose Grandia 2 for the HD remake with the PC port.
Jun Iwasaki, president of GungHo Online Entertainment America shared: "With the rise of digital downloads, it is especially important that classic games continue to remain available to play in some form. Grandia 2, he adds, was chosen for a PC release because it represents both a hallmark of the Grandia series and an example of how great JRPGs can be". In addition to the HD visuals, the new Grandia II includes Steam features include Steam Trading Cards and Achievements along with mouse and keyboard support.
GameArts initially released Grandia 2 for Sega's Dreamcast, which later came to PlayStation 2 and PC ports. GungHo Online Entertainment America has not yet disclosed the release date for Grandia 2. So stay tuned for more updates!
