Actresses Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchette both admit they felt comfortable doing a sex scene for their new film Carol. Rooney says it made no difference from a sex scene with the opposite sex which she has done in the past. Cate meanwhile says she felt comfortable doing it.
THE ONLY DIFFERENCE
In an interview during the recent Cannes Film Festival where Carol premiered, Rooney Mara said her intimate scene with Cate Blanchett was just like doing the same thing with men. She says love scenes are different only because it is done with different persons but it has nothing to do with gender. Rooney said the only distinction compared with men was that Cate's skin was so soft. The latter replied by joking that she did a chest wax for Rooney. Kidding aside, Cate said she felt at ease with the nude scenes praising Director Todd Hayne's story taste. She said the scene was an important part of the movie and it was erotically and beautifully done.
Moreover, in another report, Cate Blanchett expressed her respect and admiration for Rooney. Both did not feel awkward being naked. Rooney says she had been nude for quite a time while Cate has been seen by strangers naked when she gave birth.
GENDER EQUALITY
In Carol, Cate is a mother and housewife who instantly falls for Rooney, a young shy salesclerk she meets while shopping for Christmas. Both experience love at first sight and continue their illicit relationship despite having men in their lives. Carol is a movie set in the 1950s, a time when lesbian relationships were not that accepted yet by the society. According to a source, the film was adapted from the 1952 novel The Price of Salt. Cate admitted on having relationships with the same sex in the past but she clarified it never went into a sexual thing.
Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett confessing being comfortable about their sex scenes in Carol, supports their, especially Cate's, being vocal about homosexuality which she says should be something other parts of the world should be already open to.
