"Insurgent" star Miles Teller was recently tapped to join Martin Scorsese's "Bleed For This" biopic that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this week.

The film was well-embraced at the prestigious event despite only releasing 12 minutes worth of contents from "Bleed For This," Rope of Silicon noted.

Teller will be playing the role of boxing legend Vinny Pazienza, a champion junior-middleweight whose career almost came to an end in 1991 after he was involved in a car accident, according to Entertainment Weekly.

At that time, Pazienza's doctors told him that his boxing career is over because the chances of him walking again were slim. However, the boxer recovered from the accident after just a few months and was able to go back to boxing, thanks to his trainer, Kevin Rooney (Aaron Eckhart).

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures recently acquired the rights for "Bleed For This" for $4 million, Variety reported. The company will be able to release the film in various parts of the world including Germany, France, Canada, Latin America, Greece, Spain, South Africa, Australia, Eastern Europe and more.

"Bleed For This" will also be released in the United States by Open Road Films.

"The film features an incredible performance from Miles Teller, who completely transforms himself into the character of legendary boxer Vinny Pazienza, and will blow audiences away with this role," Lisa Wilson, co-founder of the Solution with Myles Nestel said. "Bleed For This" is produced by "Silver Linings Playbook's" Bruce Cohen, "The Wolf of Wall Street's" Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Noah Kraft and more.

Scorsese served as the film's executive producer. He has partnered with Wilson and Nestel and Michelle Verdi. "Bleed For This" was directed by Ben Younger. As of late, the official release date of "Bleed For This" in the U.S. and other parts of the world has not yet been confirmed.
