In a clear move to expand markets, North American medical information firm Allscripts Healthcare Solutions is purchasing dbMotion, the Israeli healthcare provider. The price tag for the purchase is US$235 million according to report by the Calcalist financial news website.
Allscripts is the main distributor of dbMotion products and they are partners in the development of healthcare information sharing programs and software. The US firm provides technology that allows hospitals and physicians to share patient records through electronic mail and is currently priced at US$2.15 billion.
For its part, dbMotion has developed healthcare information sharing programs that allows medical practitioners to have secured access to medical records through the company's network of sites. The most common example would be emergency room staff being able to view the medical history and records of a patient from HMO and doctor advice. The company has been able to raise US$50 million from angel investors Gemini, Pitango and Vertex and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
