During an episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last Tuesday night, Jimmy Kimmel went emotional as David Letterman ended the "Late Show with David Letterman" sharing how that the latter has influenced his life.
Jimmy Kimmel's emotional tribute to David Letterman last Tuesday night was extremely emotional for a comedy host. The former relayed his obsession for "Late Show with David Letterman" as he was growing up. He revealed that he had always been a skilled artist, not a comedian.
Kimmel then relayed that growing up, he would do sketches of Letterman and would tune into his show. He also shared that Letterman's show was different from other TV shows because of Letterman's subtle delivery of comedy that Kimmel explained, "...his way of saying things was so subtle that a lot of the times people he was saying things to didn't know he was joking."
As Kimmel grew older, his life was full of Letterman. He said that he had a David Letterman jacket that he would always wear, his mother even made a cake modified to Letterman during his birthday, and his first car even had a "L8 Nite" vanity plate. Clearly, Kimmel felt deeply for Letterman.
Moreover, as a tribute to David Letterman, Kimmel urged the audience to tune in to the very last airing of "Late Show with David Letterman" on Wednesday night. Out of respect to Letterman, Kimmel said that a re-run of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" was to be aired and that he'll be watching the very last episode "Late Show with David Letterman".
Additionally, Kimmel, as his monologue was about to end, told the audience that he felt heartbroken that Letterman was ending his show. Also, he added in his speech that he was absolutely thankful to Letterman for changing his life forever, and for giving him the opportunity to be a successful host since he was discovered as he was a guest on the "Late Show with David Letterman".
