Turkish Airlines is currently negotiating with airline providers Boeing and Airbus on the number of narrow-body planes it plans to order as it hopes to expand its fleet of smaller aircraft this year, according company chairman Hamdi Topcu.
Topcu said in a statement to Reuters that the carrier has still not decided on how many planes it wants to order after it purchased larger models worth billions of dollars last year.
In January, the world's fastest-growing major carrier announced that it would order more than 100 narrow-body planes in late March. According to sources in the sector, the flag carrier of Turkey has been seeking to have narrow-body jets such as the 150-seat A320 of Airbus.
Turkish Airlines, whose 49% share is owned by the government, was in discussion over a possible bond issue, Topcu added.
The carrier has been aiming to launch as many as 40 new routes this year and to fly to every country in Europe by the end of 2013.
