Google officially released the Android 5.1.1 OTA update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 9. This was first released on the Nexus Player and Samsung Galaxy S6. Factory images of the Lollipop upgrade are also available for the mentioned Nexus devices.

Once the 5.1.1 update hits Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 9, it will bring fixes on bugs and crashes as well as introducing various new features, resulting to an improved user experience.

Nexus owners can wait for the OTA update. However, they have the Android 5.1.1 installed by the factory images at Google Developers site.

With this release, the Lollipop upgrade is now available for Nexus Player, Nexus 9 (LTE & Wi-Fi), Nexus 5 (GSM/LTE), Nexus 7 2013 (Wi-Fi and Mobile), Nexus 10, Nexus 4, and Nexus 7 (Wi-Fi and Mobile). Further, each Nexus device has their corresponding Android 5.1.1 build versions:

  • Nexus 5 (GSM/LTE) with LMY48B
  • Nexus 9 (LTE and Wi-Fi) with LMY47X
  • Nexus Player, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 2013 (Wi-Fi), Nexus 7 2013 (Mobile), Nexus 7 (Wi-Fi and Mobile), and Nexus 10 with LMY47V

Before downloading and installing the factory images, Nexus owners must first backup any personal data such as photos because flashing a new system image will delete all user data and ensure that the device's bootloader is unlocked through Google's Fastboot utility. An example of the features that the Lollipop upgrade would bring to the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 9 is the added interruptions settings. With it, users can specifically choose notifications to prioritize as well as enabling device owners the option to whether take a call or not and narrow the calls to a list of contacts according to a user's pereference.

Further, the 5.1.1 update will also introduce screen pinning, which allows the phone to stay locked on a certain app or menu option until a PIN is being put. A new security measure is also going to be included, specifically a lock function. This would enable the phone owner to make the device unusable if it gets stolen.
