Hou Hsiao-Hsien's 'The Assassin' Acknowledged As the Most Artistic Film at Cannes Film Festival

The Hou-Hsiao-Hsien has again, gained the recognition from various cinematographers during the Cannes Film Festival. His outstanding introduction during the event in Venice and Berlin has inspired many audiences for his creative talents in formulating "The Assassin".

Taiwanese Director Hou-Hsiao-Hsien's latest film entitled "The Assassin" was shown this year at the Cannes Film Festival last May 20 showcasing a skilled female warrior that was trained by Buddhists Yang Huizen, also known as Feng Hsu, in center stage. It was likewise the debut of the film for the whole public to see. The introduction wowed the audience as the director's work uring the 1975 Cannes Festival on "A Touch of Zen" did many few years back. Truly, Hou-Hsiao-Hsien's talents consistently grace the cinematographers with outstanding technical aspects.

THE STORYLINE

The lead character Nie Yinniang of the movie is played by Shu Qi. She is a 10-year-old girl who was kidnapped and trained by the Princess nun Jiaxin, played by Sheu-Fang-yito for her to be able to extinguish corrupt politicians in their neighborhood. During the film, Yinniang encountered a failed mission. As a consequence, she was forced to go back home and kill her fiancé. Knowing that the deed was not proper, Yinniang defies the kill order and realizes that despite her upbringing as a criminal, it is her duty to do what's right for her soul.

THE FILM

The film itself, as seen in the Cannes Film Festival, showed the director's talent on how to showcase the details in an artistic manner as movements on the screen along with the costumes are absolutely breathtaking. It comes to show that it was a tough competitor compared to the other Palme d'Or nominees during the 68th Cannes Film Festival. Furthermore, the director also took ten years to complete "The Assassin".

On May 26, 2015, Taiwan will launch a movie festival in Europe showcasing the works of Taiwanese directors such as the internationally celebrated Taiwanese Director Hou Hsiao-Hsien, the creator of "The Assassin". Following which, the film will also be screened in UGD De Brouckere in Brussels on the night of May 27, 2015.
