Jules Bianchi of Marussia Formula 1 demonstrates improvement in his health status as he was recently no longer relying on a life support machine. His condition stays critical and he is still unconscious to date but the good thing is his vital signs are stable.
Bianchi suffered from diffused axonal injury when his vehicle crashed into a crane that was removing a stranded car at the Japanese Grand Prix on October 5, 2014. The condition is known to be widespread and can affect the person's respiration and alertness.
He got into a comatose state and has been in that way since seven months ago. Now that his artificial coma has been stopped and he was removed from a breathing aid, the optimistic side of fans and his family are waiting for him when he finally wakes up.
His parents Philippe and Christine Bianchi spoke in an interview regarding his condition.
"Jules is no longer in the artificial coma in which he was placed shortly after the accident, however, he is still unconscious. He is breathing unaided and his vital signs are stable but his condition is still classified as critical. His treatment now enters a new phase concerned with the improvement of his brain function."
Improving brain function means that the Marussia Driver is treated to increase his score in the Glasgow Coma Scale that has the highest score of 15.
He was also brought closer to home and was transferred to the hospital where he was born in the "Le Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Nice" or locally known as CHU located in Nice, France.
His father Philippe expressed his appreciation to the group of specialists who have devoted their time in the treatment of his son.
"We are thankful that the next phase of Jules' treatment can continue close to home, where he can be surrounded by his wider family and friends. We have nothing, but praise for the outstanding care provided by the Mie General Medical Center since the accident. We owe the medical staff there an enormous debt of gratitude for everything they have done for Jules, and also for our family, during what is a very difficult time for us."
Not only his relatives and immediate family but Bianchi's friends in the work are grateful for his relocation as well. Recently, Fernando Alonso released a statement reminiscing his excellent performance in his last race before his accident.
"It's hard to understand when you are in a car that is not competitive, to get some points. It's some kind of miracle. That is what Jules did last year, ninth place here. He was the star of the race. Now, to come here again and not see him together with us on the grid is very sad. It's not only here we remember him, it's every weekend, but here it's a little more difficult to understand the things that happened last year."
Bianchi's fellow also let his wishes of him being closer to home would let him feel the comfort and presence of the people who care for him. "He is in Nice, he is half an hour away, so hopefully he can feel some extra power that we send him," Alonso added.
Jules Bianchi's family, relatives, friends, fellows in the work, and mostly his fans, pray for his waking up and ultimately, his recovery from the said life-threatening accident.
