Jason Statham's villainous Deckard Shaw was one of the best parts of this year's Furious 7 (also, the Fast and Furious team skydiving in cars was pretty incredible too). And Paramount realizes how much audiences responded to Statham's ruthless villain- because they may be bringing him back to terrorize the streets a second time in 'Fast and Furious 8."
The first details about "Fast and Furious 8" (or will it be titled Furious 8? Fast and Furious movie titles are impossible to predict) have come out online- the film will see Dom Toretto's gang employed as spies by Kurt Russell's Mr. Nobody, and pulling off incredible car stunts in New York City. As well, the details indicated that Jason Statham would return as the film's main villain.
Furious 7 ended with Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) locking Deckard Shaw in the most high-security prison known to man, and Deckard snarling that he'd break out eventually and return to wreak havoc on the Fast and Furious crew. Sounds like that's exactly what'll be happening in the upcoming sequel.
As well, Dwayne Johnson has confirmed he'll be returning to the film, saying "Of course, can't go on without Hobbs" in a recent press conference for San Andreas. However, in past interviews Johnson has alluded to starring in his own spin-off franchise. In a recent interview, he stated:
"I just had a big conversation with the studio so we'll see. I still think for me personally, we create a little bit of space from seven and gauge what the audience will want and go from there. That's my take on it. Now a lot of other people have their own [say]."
Would Furious 8 be the same without Dwayne Johnson's massive muscles? Would the Fast and Furious team be able to take down Deckard Shaw without the help of Luke Hobbs? He was pretty crucial in the last film's final fight, blasting down an attack helicopter with a massive chaingun. Either way, "Fast and Furious 8" is planned to release on April 14, 2017.
