Star Wars Rogue One Cast Update: Elysium’s Diego Luna to Star as Villain in Upcoming Spinoff Film

By

For the latest Star Wars Rogue One Cast Update, Elysium's Diego Luna has joined Gareth Edwards' new film anthology. Luna will star as part of the new Star Wars Rogue One along with Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn and Riz Ahmed.

Luna, Jones and Ahmed will play rebels in this new film, while Mendelsohn might play the lead antagonist in the film. Disney and Lucasfilms, however are yet to release any official statement about Luna's casting. Luna has been in many other projects on screen and behind the screen. He co-starred with Mel Gibson in Blood Father and he directed the 2014 film Cesar Chavez.

"In a galaxy far away," between Episodes III and IV, a spinoff Star Wars anthology film is made. The story of Star Wars Rogue One will focus on the rebels who are desperately trying to steal the Death Star plans from the empire. This could be the same plan that Princess Leia took from Episode IV, along with R2D2 and 3CPO.

The new anthology will be released December 16, 2016, a year after the release of Star Wars: Force Awakens. The plot was revealed during the recent Star Wars Celebration convention held in Anaheim along with director Edwards and Lucasfilms president Kathleen Kennedy.

Chris Carle and Roth Cornet, in a video from IGN, talked about the new spinoff anthology. They talk about how it might confuse the fans, but they also talked about how it can open doors for a whole new universe. There are speculations that the characters in this anthology will have the elements from "The Dirty Dozen" and "Saving Private Ryan." It seems like this film will not feature any Jedi. Star Wars Rogue One may be grittier, like how you would picture a real rebellion.

This Star Wars Rogue One movie is not related in prequel/sequel form to the upcoming Star Wars The Force Awakens.
