Not much has been disclosed yet about the upcoming "Transformers 5" movie but fans recently learned that a "Transformers" prequel could be a huge possibility.
According to Collider, Paramount recently pooled together a group of writers who will be working on the future sequels and spinoffs of the upcoming "Transformers" film. More specifically, the production company will tap each of the writers to pen their specific installments.
There have been reports that Paramount tapped Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari to team up for an upcoming prequel entitled "Transformers One," Deadline reported. If this were to push through, "Transformers One" will be focused on the origin story that will take place in Cybertron.
Meanwhile, since nothing has been finalized yet, there have been reports that the prequel could be released as an animated film. However, Barrer and Ferrari were originally tapped to pen the script for a live-action "Transformers" movie.
In other news, Paramount recently named all of the writers they have tapped for "Transformers 5" and it includes the "Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman, "Pacific Rim 2's" Zak Penn, "Lost's" Jeff Pikner and "Iron Man's" Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.
All of these writers will be working closely with Akiva Goldsman, who was previously tapped as the first writer to go on board for "Transformers 5." As of late, a director for the movie has not yet been confirmed. Multiple sources claimed that resident "Transformers" director Michael Bay no longer wants to return to the franchise.
In a recent interview with USA Today, Bay said that he already has other plans up his sleeve. This means that his return to direct "Transformers 5" may not really happen.
"There's kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make. I have a lot of stories to tell. And it's about flexing new muscles," he told the publication.
"Transformers 5" is slated for release in the U.S. sometime in 2017.
