Qantas, the Australian airline has discontinued its partnership with its associate airlines even if the final approval for its new association with Dubai's Emirates is still awaiting confirmation. The modifications to the alliances of Qantas are not brought about to influence final decisions on the proposed partnership with Emirates which is due March 31, but rather precautionary for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
Qantas has requested the International Air Services Commission (IASC) to disregard their association with Cathay Pacific in flights between Australia and Italy and instead allow them to share the numbers of those flights with Emirates. They also included in their request to lower the capacity between the countries to 300 seats weekly from 600 seats starting March 31. Other flights that they want to share with Emirates are those between Australia and the United Kingdom via Dubai and between Australia and Singapore. The pre-approved deal will have both airline share flights and hook-up their promotion for frequent flyers.
