Girls’ Generation faces off SISTAR to repeat 2NE1 decline; Helping hand offered to SHINee

SM Entertainment's leading global girl group Girls' Generation will face-off with Starship's SISTAR during their album promotions this month of June. Domestically, both groups are known as national girl groups being popular to the masses and the K-Pop audience in entirety.

Girls' Generation is recently making headlines with its members seen sporting new hairstyles in alleged preparation for their June album comeback. Fans are raving with excitement as speculations reveal that the most famous girl group might be having a "good girl bad girl" concept with some members such as Soo Young, Hyo Yeon, and Sunny in short hairstyles and the others wearing their usually long hair.

Members Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun shocked fans when they uploaded series of dubsmashes in their Instagram accounts wearing hoodies to cover what are supposedly their new hairdos. The video is captioned in parallel to the rumors of June release.

Group leader Taeyeon in particular has thrilled fans making them believe that the vocalist has gone wild, hiding her new half-shaven hair just like what she wanted in a specific episode of "TaeTiSeo Onstyle TV Show." Later she was spotted in a pet store wearing blonde hair with pink tips, to the disappointment of the many hopefuls of a wild, young, and free Taeyeon.

Meanwhile, SISTAR is said to be gearing for a June release as well. This will be their first release for 2015 after "Sweet and Sour" last August.

An associate said in an interview, "SISTAR is working towards a mid-June comeback and is in the process of finalizing a comeback date."

Neither has Girls' Generation set a particular date although they were slated for June, but since their label mates SHINee is still promoting and EXO releases on the first week, it is only logical that Girls' Generation will likely to drop their album on the second or third week which will coincide with Sistar's promotion.

The mentioned industry insider also added that, "They (SISTAR) are in the final stages of working on their album. They're putting in a lot of effort into their title song."

If huge boy groups such as EXO and BIGBANG were to have showdown in June, then the girl groups Girls' Generation and SISTAR are going to hype the temperature on music shows during their standoff as well.

The most notable battle last year took place when YG'S frontrunner group 2NE1 also promoted their full-length album "Crush" at the same time with Girls' Generation's "Mr.Mr" mini-album on February.

Although both albums did well in the charts and both have won in music shows, Girls' Generation took steps farther reaching spot number five on Gaon's Year-End 2014 Album Chart while 2NE1 was on number 33.

SISTAR may not be on par with Girls' Generation in the physical sales due to fandom size difference but the latter is known for its hit songs placing high on digital charts and are publicly acknowledged. Moreover, domestic music shows in Korea give large points on the digital score so it is expected that the two huge girl groups' showdown will be worth anticipating for.
