Fox's Lucifer Faces Controversy Versus Catholic Group, One Million Moms; Sandman's Neil Gaiman Says Petition Will Only Increase Viewership

By

The new TV series entitled Lucifer is an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's comic book Sandman. The plot evolves with the character of Lucifer (portrayed by Tom Ellis) who decided to give up his throne as the lord of Hell and his kingdom because of boredom and choses to stay in Los Angeles to run a nightclub.

But before it was aired, a religious group seeks help to One Million Moms for a petition to cancel the show. The series has been ready for quite sometimes and they are just waiting for the airing of its pilot episode. Though they are not expecting so much from the general audience, they are sure that comic fans of Sandman will surely watch the shows.

On May 28, a petition had been submitted by the One Million Moms calling the pilot episode as violent and a bad portrayal of women with a humanize demon. Part of the petition tackled the issue of faith and Bible where Satan is far from what they showing in the television. It can also change the human perception of Satan and possibly others will now idolize Lucifer. They added that if Fox will air Lucifer, they are respecting the Christianity and mocking the content of the Bible.

As far as today, almost 13,500 concerned Mom have signed the petition. As a response, Neil Gaiman posted on his Tumbler page talking about the same old scenario where many "Concerned Mother of America" in 1991 boycotting his book SANDMAN because of its LGBT characters.

Neil Gaiman commented that what the One Million Moms is doing only promotes more viewership. He sarcastically added that their show must be thankful of the free publicity given by the petition to Lucifer.

As a fan of the book, I think many will find the character of Lucifer as interesting persona and by watching the trailer, this TV series is very promising.
