Terminator: Genisys clip debuts: Kyle Reese squares off against a T-1000

By

A new clip from the upcoming Terminator: Genisys reboot has premiered online, and immediately makes it clear why it is a throwback and a reboot at the same time.

The near-one-minute clip finds time-displaced soldier Kyle Reese, played by Jai Courtney of Spartacus and A Good Day to Die Hard, frantically running through a department store and grabbing clothes off their racks as he is being stalked methodically by a police officer (Byung-hun Lee). Reese gets dressed and tries on a pair of sneakers in a fitting room - until he narrowly misses getting on the business end of two sharp metal spikes - the good police officer being, of course, a T-1000 Terminator robot.

As Reese scurries to safety, a mail truck driven by everyone's favorite Mother of Dragons - er, Emilia Clarke, who plays Sarah Connor, crashes into the storefront and hits the Terminator broadside while delivering the iconic "Come with me if you want to live" line.

Yes, it isn't the Governator who delivers that line, but Resistance leader John Connor's mom. And yes, she does not need protection, as she makes it clear that she can take care of herself.

Sarah informs the bewildered Reese that the timeline he was in isn't the 1984 he was looking for, but was instead an alternate-reality one created by an unexpected turn of events when he made the jump from the future to the past. To make her point crystal clear, she pops open the door to the back of the van, and lo and behold, a T-800 unit played by Arnold Schwarzenegger is there.

Terminator: Genisys stars Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, Byung-hun Lee, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Guardian. The first in a planned trilogy of films, Terminator: Genisys is directed by Thor: The Dark World's Alan Taylor, and will arrive in theaters July 1, 2015.
