Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced that the awaited Spider-Man Reboot Movie has its release date on the 28th of July 2017. The reboot movie about one, if not the most, popular character in the Marvel Universe, is just one of the handful movies to be released by the studio in the next few years, alongside "Captain America: Civil War", "Ant Man", "Thor: Ragnarok", "Black Panther" and "Deadpool", to name a few.
In 1999, Marvel sold the feature rights of Spider-Man to Sony for $ 7 million. And now, Sony has partnered with Marvel not only to bring the web-slinger back to the big screen, but also to reaffirm his participation in the Marvel Universe with the other superheroes. While Sony still has final creative control over Spidey's character into Marvel's upcoming films, it was confirmed that Marvel's Kevin Feige would produce the movie. However, it is yet to be confirmed if Drew Goddard from the Daredevil series would write and direct the film.
Bits from the storyline were also revealed; the plot, possible involvement of other Marvel superheroes, Spider-Man's connection to the Avengers, and the possible villains. One report claims that it will not be another "origin movie" which means that the story skips the spider-biting part and Peter's discovery of superpowers. However, the upcoming film may revolve around Peter Parker's high school life. Another report is about the possibility that Spider-Man would be battling the Sinister Six, a group of supervillains composed of Electro, Sand Man, Doctor Octopus, Mysterio, Vulture, and Kraven the Hunter, since it is reported that the appearance of the Sinister Six in the Amazing Spider-Man series is not totally cancelled, but simply delayed.
In the meantime, Marvel has screen-tested six actors who might be playing the lead role. While there are rumors regarding a younger or a "diversified" version of Spider-Man, this shortlist might sort out the murky information about Peter Parker's new persona. In the list are young actors Tom Holland, Matthew Lintz, Judah Lewis, Charlie Rowe, Charlie Plummer, and the "favorite" from the list, Asa Butterfield.
