'Wayward Pines' Season 1 episode 4 aired last Thursday was pretty intense and it did open up a lot of questions. After Ethan discovered that the whole town is bombarded with fence and fans saw Pope dragged by some unknown creature outside, Burke locks the gate and returns home with a new mindset. He will be taking Pope's role as head sheriff, while still digging more information about the whole thing.
Episode 4 let us saw the Burkes' drive back to Wayward Pines, after they saw Pope's body dragged outside the fence by some unidentified creature. As part of their role playing, Ethan took his new role as the Sheriff, while Ben is welcomed to school by teacher Maggie Fisher, the Mayor's wife. And, Theresa accepted a position at the town's unconventional realtor's office, according to TVLine.
After taking over as sheriff during 'Wayward Pines' Season 1 episode 4, Ethan was presented with a key to a safe containing boxes of files with information about the previous lives of every resident in Wayward Pines. It seems no one is there by accident and whoever is in charge has a lot of resources, IB Times speculates.
It was added that Burkes pretended to go along with the town's plans, while digging for more information. All of their compliance is part of their act.
Meanwhile, Ben's going to school might be good at first. Later on, however, this could be a potential warning for adult Burkes. Mrs. Fisher, a seemingly friendly woman, might have ulterior motives. During an orientation session, she repeatedly asked Ben the same questions - "Where are you from?," "Where do you live?" and "Where is home?"
In episode 4 of 'Wayward Pines' Season 1, Ethan later found out that the Mayor's wife was a former hypnotherapist after reading through a hidden stash of personal files on the residents. A.V. Club speculates that the teacher's real motive is to lure the young Burke to go against his father's plan. It is also added that Ben's friend Kate is also a way for the town to also influence the kid.
