"It's morphin time!" These words from the live-action television series 'Power Rangers' will never be forgotten by the kids who grew around the 90s. Lionsgate together with 'Power Ranger' creator Haim Saban already confirmed that they will be behind the making of another movie franchise.
'Project Almanac' director Dean Israelite will take the responsibility of helming the 'Power Rangers' movie. "I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way. It had this wonderful character that's essential to going on a fantastic adventure. I was instantly drawn to it. I remember it as a kid. I grew up with it in South Africa," explained Israelite.
In the original series, the members of the 'Power Rangers' were high school students who each has a supersuit to be used when monsters and robots come out to attack the world. First shown on Fox Kids on television in August 28, 1993, it became one of the successful TV series not just in America but around the world, too. 'Power Rangers' was translated then into various languages all over the globe.
Israelite, when asked about the storyline only said "It needs to be completely playful, and it needs to be really fun and funny. So I think it's going to be a fun, joyful [movie] but one that feels completely grounded in a real world, with real characters going through real things."
According to Israelite, they are now in the pre-production stage. The film is scheduled for release in January 13, 2017.
Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz were the ones who wrote the script for the 'Power Rangers' reboot. The original 'Power Rangers' producer and creator Haim Saban is still the producer of the reboot.
