The board of directors of Hulu, the online video service site, has reached out to potential buyers to gauge interest in purchasing the company. This was confirmed with Reuters by three anonymous sources,
The owners of the website, News Corp and Walt Disney are also considering options as to what it would be doing with its shareholdings in the firm. While there has been no formal offer made, the internal strategic review of the company is now underway. There was no information provided as to the number of possible buyers contacted by the board.
Elisa Schreiber, spokeswoman for Hulu and Nathaniel Brown of News Corp both declined to make any comment on the matter. Disney for its part also did not provide any immediate comment.
Both majority owners are considering options, such as buying one another out especially after last year's revenue report showed US$700 million in gross sales. Hulu has been shopped around since 2011 and even considered conducting an IPO.
