"Ghostbusters 3" director Paul Feig recently revealed why the all-female version of the hit "Ghostbusters" franchise should be dubbed as a reboot.
In an interview with Empire Online, Feig explained that the third installment, which stars four women, is a reboot because it should be looked upon as a different film. Not to mention, this is the first time that the franchise will have an all-female lead cast.
Feig also said that a lot of the fans were unhappy that "Ghostbusters 3" was created as a reboot, but he stressed that he believes it was the best direction for the film, The Mary Sue noted.
"A lot of people are mad because it's a reboot. But I don't know how to do it any other way, because it's been 25 years since that last one. Harold has gone, Bill doesn't want to do it, and I love Dan and Ernie, but people had written those scripts and they were fine, but it felt sweaty to me, it felt like a wheel was off the cart," he said.
Meanwhile, Feig also revealed that he didn't want to direct "Ghostbusters 3" at first because he initially didn't know how to make the story work. However, when he was informed that he will be working with four women, he immediately knew how to make the storyline fun and entertaining, according to Yibada.
Now, Feig couldn't contain his excitement over the upcoming project. He said, "I'm excited. Those four ladies I have starring in it are so funny and that's half the battle. I'm going to battle with the best army I have. My whole crew from all my other movies have come aboard."
"Ghostbusters 3" stars "Mike and Molly" star Melissa McCarthy, "Despicable Me 2" cast Kristen Wiig and "Saturday Night Live" stars Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
The film is slated for release on Jul. 22, 2016.
