Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’ Eight-Part Miniseries To Air On Showtime?

Stephen King's "The Stand" novel may be adapted for television under Showtime network.

According to The Wrap, in addition to a possible movie adaptation of "The Stand," Warner Bros. and CBS Films, together with "The Fault In Our Stars" director Josh Boone are currently in talks to create an eight-part miniseries for the network.

Meanwhile, Dread Central suggested that "The Stand" on Showtime may even be released ahead of the movie. Boone, who was tapped to direct the film back in February 2014, will also be in charge of writing the script and directing the miniseries.

The filming of "The Stand" miniseries and the movie is expected to commence early next year.

"The Stand" focuses on the epic battle between the good and the evil after the entire American population was plagued by a deadly virus. The story will specifically focus on a group of survivors who will fight against Randall Flagg, a demonic Antichrist.

In other news, there have been reports that "Dallas Buyers Club" actor Matthew McConaughey is being tapped to play the role of the villainous character, Randall, Coming Soon noted.

However, as of late, McConaughey, Boone and King have not yet denied or confirmed the report.

Additionally, there have also been reports that Nat Wolff will join the cast of "The Stand," but it is still unclear which character he will play. There is not confirmation yet as to whether or not he will join the movie or the miniseries.

Flagg has been a recurring character in some of King's novels and oftentimes he is disguised as a different persona. However, he was first introduced in 1978 and later on became a huge part of King's "The Dark Tower." The latter is also being adapted for the big screen and television.

"The Stand" will be produced by Roy Lee and Jimmy Miller .
