Qantas Emirates Partnership Approved

By

Australian anti-trust regulators have cleared the tie up between Qantas Airways Ltd and Emirates on international flights. The so-called Kangaroo route would now fly through Dubai as part of the deal.

This new alliance would be allowed for five years and would allow the two air carriers to coordinate passenger and cargo operations. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commision though would impose a condition to limit each carrier's ability to adjust flight capaciities between New Zealand and Australia.

Currently, Qantas would be selling tickets to sixty one stop destinations through out Europe, Middle East and Africa through the Dubai hub alliance. The Australian air carrier looked for a partnership after it lost a market share on international routes against other competitors who provided more connections and convenient flight times.

In a statement, Alan Joyce CEO for Qantas, welcomed the decision in saying, "Customers are already responding very strongly to the joint network."
