The European Union's antitrust regulators are set to approve the planned merger of UK's Pearson's Penguin and Germany's Bertelsmann's Random House unit with no conditions, sources with knowledge about the matter said.
The proposed merger was announced by the two companies in October 2012 and was already approved by the U.S. Department of Justice on February 14, 2013.
Once the merger is completed, it is expected to form a leading consumer publishing company in the world with greater resources to make investment in rich content, high growth emerging markets and advanced digital publishing models.
There were no concessions provided by the companies, one of the people familiar with the matter said.
