Sony's Project Morpheus release date and pricing details possibly leaked

Release and pricing details of Sony's Project Morpheus may have just been unintentionally leaked by one unlikely source.

According to Hardcore Gamer, one Austrian online retailer may have been the source behind the accidental leak.

In the listing, which has since been taken down, it says the Project Morpheus headset is scheduled to be released in the second quarter of 2016. The same listing also presents a possible price point for the headset, and it is equivalent to around $450.

The price point in particular is of great interest to people keeping close tabs on Project Morpheus, mainly because it looks to be a little high even for what the headset can offer. Sony could be banking on their own brand power to get people to buy the headset despite what appears to be quite a hefty price tag, but there's also a chance the price could come down some time closer to the apparent release date.

For those who may not be familiar with the Project Morpheus headset, it is basically Sony's counter-offering to the popular Oculus Rift, according to Segment Next. Both devices are intended to change the way people play video games, so there is a built-in market for them.

Interestingly enough, the Oculus Rift is also rumored to have a 2016 release date, so it's worth seeing if that could possibly lower the prices for both devices.

Unsurprisingly, Sony has offered no comment on the apparent leak, and it looks like they will stay mum on the issue until at least E3. Sony is expected to make a big splash at the event, and news regarding Project Morpheus is likely to be a part of their presentation, according to WCCF Tech.

Those who want to tune in can catch Sony onstage on June 15 inside the L.A. Memorial Sports Arena.
