"Galavant" T.V. Series Update: Alan Menken And Glenn Slater Admits It Was A Learning Curve Composing Songs For Show

ABC's musical show "Galavant" is gearing up for the second season of the show that is slated to hit your TV screens sometime this 2016. In line with this, the musical directors of the show, Alan Menken and Glenn Slater, revealed that although they are already legends in the Broadway industry, making songs for "Galavant" was a learning curve.

"Galavant" is a musical-comedy T.V. series that surprisingly had a renewal from ABC. The plot is about this knight named Galavant who is in a quest to bring back the love of his life.

According to Alan Menken and Glenn Slater, they signed up for the series when they met with the creator of the show Dan Fogelman as reported by Variety.

The duo noted that although they have been in Broadway for many years now, writing music for a half-hour television show was challenging as they had to change the way they wrote. They had to adapt to the timetable of the show and wrote shorter songs in order to make the lines fit into the story.

Slater shared that making music for 23-minute separate pieces changes the way he heard the songs and the way the songs functioned in the plot of the story. They added that they had to make their music introduce "Galavant" to the audience as a story that had a smart-alecky tone.

Menken, on the other hand, shared that the lyrics they wrote was sophisticated and theatrical but the arrangement of the song for the show is actually basic and at the same time has a hint of rock music. The musical directors added, "It was just (about) trying to establish tone quickly. Letting the audience know that this is not a show for kids, that this was not going to be polite, and that this was not old-fashioned."

"Galavant" stars Joshua Sasse, Timothy Omundson, Vinnie Jones, Mallory Jansen, Karen David, and Luke Youngblood.
