Google's Android M Extends Nexus 5’s Stand-by Battery Life by Nearly Three Times

By

Android fans who are eagerly awaiting of the unveiling and eventual release of Android's supposed latest iteration code named "Android M" will be joyed to know of the result of the test that came with Nexus 5 vis a vis another of the same unit but running on Android 5.1.1 Kit-Kat - a 2.7 times better stand-by time than Kit-Kat.

The information came as a result of the test as conducted by the German website, Computer Base. According to another source which interprets the German report, when both units, one running in Android Kit-Kat and the other on Android M, were tested to run for eight hours, the Kit-Kat unit showed a decrease on the battery charge for as much as 4% throughout the duration while one installed with the Android M unit showed only a decrease in battery charge by 1.5% during their stand-by mode.

Furthering the test between two units for 24 hours more, the Kit-Kat unit showed a significant drop of 12% on its battery level while only leaving the Android M unit drained by 4.5%. Using these credible data, by interpretation, it means that the Nexus 5 unit installed with "Android M" is capable of 533 hours of total stand-by time as opposed to the one with Kit-Kat lasting only a total of 200 hours.

Primarily the reason for this capability coming from Android M is the inclusion of the embedded feature called Doze, a smart feature that automatically detects the unit by being left unattended for long time and thereby shift to a mode of less consuming energy to the unit's battery charge.

Given that the Android M OS is still in its developing stage when used for the test, there is a very good indication of how good this upcoming Android iteration would be in terms of battery conservation and usage should it get an official release early next year.

Although the test conducted is still very limited in nature and may not display what Android M is fully capable of as an updated operating system to Kit-Kat, the developer's preview is very encouraging for developers, and anticipatory for fans.
