Harper Lee personal letters fail to sell at auction; HarperCollins primps for ‘Go Set A Watchman’ release on July

Last week, Harper Lee's 6 private letters went up for auction and thought to be huge. But, recent reports revealed that those letters did not live up to the expectation. It has failed to sell at auction. Despite that, HarperCollins is finalizing the Lee's book before the anticipated release on July of the sequel to 'To Kill A Mockingbird', 'Go Set A Watchman'.

On Friday, Harper Lee's six letters went up for auction. The typed letters by Lee offer an extremely rare look into the bestselling author's private thoughts, both before and after her American classic 'To Kill a Mockingbird' was published. The six letters were addressed to Lee's architect friend, Harold Caulfield, and dated between 1956 and 1961, which was the period that Lee wrote her celebrated classic, 'To Kill a Mockingbird'.

Many thought it would be huge and expected to go for more than $300,000 and had been valued at $150,000 to $250,000 by Christie's, according to Bustle.

The site added that none of the attendees were into letters. It is said that the auction house has stopped the bidding at $90,000 when it became apparent that there was no buyer.

In the last six months Lee has been the subject of many headlines, most of them relating to the upcoming release of 'Go Set a Watchman', the first book she has published since 'To Kill a Mockingbird' appeared in 1960, according to the report by The Guardian.

On the other hand, Deadline reports that HarperCollins primps for the July 14 release of Harper Lee's recently re-discovered sequel to To Kill A Mockingbird, 'Go Set A Watchman'. But before that, it is expected a numerous of media activity surrounding the publishing event of the summer. The site adds that the release of the book is perfect as Rupert Murdoch's sons James and Lachlan own the HarperCollins.

The site also mentioned that 'Go Set A Watchman' has become the most pre-ordered book in the company's history. They are set to produce 2 million copies for the first printing.
