According to HollywoodTake, prior to the incident in Napoli, a similar situation had happened when Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed had their honeymoon in Paris. The couple was supposed to go out for a quiet walked where fans waited outside the place where the newlyweds were staying. Ian told them that he's not gonna take a picture with them, asked them not to follow him and Nikki, because it was his day (meaning he just got married and is on a honeymoon). Some fans were not pleased and called The Vampire Diary actor rude.
A video concerning the Napoli episode went viral in social media. The latest clip showed Somerhalder declining for a pictorial and told his fans in a loud voice that he couldn't take a picture with everyone because he didn't have time, he needed to go in and had to go home. Though, he told them that they're all amazing and that he loved them to death. But he has a life to live likewise his fans have theirs too. He extended his hand for handshake with them and kissed one fan on her hand. Then he blew them a farewell kiss.
However, other fans gave their sympathy to the couple. A few asked for an apology for the mean behavior of others who bothered Ian. One fan said that those bashers don't represent his entire fans of Italia, and hoping the actor would still visit their country.
