Hell on Wheels Season 5 will explore the battle between the two main railroads - Central Pacific and Union Pacific. Cullen Bohannon will also be on a journey to look for his wife and family. AMC has greenlighted a 14 Episode for the upcoming season of the show.
According to TVline, AMC announced last May 28 that Hell on Wheels Season 5 is indeed coming back this summer to air its first seven episodes while the second half of the projected 14-episode season will be shown Summer 2016. Sadly, the fifth season will also be the last for the popular Western drama series.
Showrunner John Wirth reminds fans not to worry as this season will be the most ambitious yet. He confides to Entertainment Weekly that actor Anson Mount's character will be challenged beyond his expectations as he finds himself a stranger in the town of Truckee, Calif., where Central Pacific Railroad is located. His challenges will include trying to mingle with Chinese workers and how to survive language, culture and tradition differences. Despite these difficulties, Cullen will lead the team to successfully tunnel through Sierra Nevada Mountains.
TV Spoiler also writes that Hell on Wheels Season 5 will examine further the effects of greed and corruption during the construction of America's Transcontinental Railroad, throwing away friendship and loyalties as the two historical railroads meet. AMC's EVP for programming, production and digital content Joel Stillerman says that even though this will be the final season of the series, Hell on Wheels will remain as epic as it has started. He is excited to share what they have produced, through the combined effort of the writers, cast and crew, because of how this final season will turn out.
