The Bourne Legacy sequel is on hold as Matt Damon confirms his desire to comeback to the franchise as agent Jason Bourne, the lead character in the original Bourne trilogy. Jeremy Renner, actor who portrays Aaron Cross, is now doubtful as to what the future holds for his spinoff franchise. However, last June 19, it appears as all uncertainty can now be dropped as both movies will be released as planned.
Cinema Blend reports that Frank Marshall, producer of all Bourne films, has verified in his SlashFilm interview that Renner's Bourne Legacy sequel and Damon's Bourne 5 will be two different projects and are two different films. Though he did not specify any details, this confirmation can assure fans that Aaron Cross will be gracing the big screen anytime soon, though his movie will be shown after Bourne 5.
According to Inquisitr, Damon tells E! News that Bourne 5 will come out in 2016, with Paul Greengrass as director and Julia Stiles reprising her role as Nicky Parsons. Several casting rumours are also in circulation, with Joan Allen signing up as powerful CIA Director Pamela Land, legendary Viggo Mortensen as the possible villain, and Alicia Vander of Ex Machina as the potential female lead character. However, the biggest speculation amongst viewers is the crossover possibility of Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross to provide a plot for his sequel, although this will be dependent on what director Justin Lin thinks.
While The Bourne Legacy is not as big when compared to the first three films, it certainly is a success and has increased Renner's box office power which eventually may lead to bigger net income for the sequel. One thing is for sure though - with the return of Jason Bourne and the anticipation for the Aaron Cross sequel, Universal Pictures could be dominating the movies this coming 2016.
