US conglomerate General Electric Co would be providing both financial capital and technological capbility for the 250 megawatt Buffalo Dunes wnd farm located in Kansas. The project is being built by Enel Green Power SpA, the Italian renewable power company.
In a separate statement, Enel Green confirmed that the Energy Financial Services unit of GE would be investing about US$40 million for 51% shareholdings in the project. The other 49% would remain with Enel Green North America with the option to increase it to 75% by buying out GE. Enel would also be the project manager.
The total cost of the project is US$370 million and is located in the Finney, Haskell and Grant counties of southwestern Kansas. Nearly US$230 million of the total amount would be put up by GE.
Aside from the finances, GE would also be supplying 135 wind turbines as well as operations and maintenance services for the farm upon completion.
