It looks like the strippers have outdone the robots in the big screen this week. The Channing Tatum-starrer "Magic Mike XXL" has topped the box-office leaving the latest installment of the iconic sci-fi franchise "Terminator Genisys" to the second spot.
According to Variety, "Magic Mike XXL" and "Terminator Genisys" had a close race to the first spot of the box office this week. The 2012 stripper sequel has danced its way to the big screen on Wednesday, earning $9.3 million, including the $2.4 million it has grossed in Tuesday evening. Channing Tatum's new flick has been screened in 3,335 theaters.
On the other hand, the well-known Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi movie "Terminator Genisys" has placed second, grossing $8.9 million on its first day of screening. Despite the popularity of the veteran franchise, News Day reports that the fifth installment of the popular franchise appears to be headed to disappointment with its poor box-office earnings. The new film is noted to have had a large budget of $155 million.
As per Hitflix's report, it is still uncertain whether both films will be able to win the holiday frame which the Pixar-animated "Inside Out" and box-office topper "Jurassic World" holds. It was reported that the animated film has crossed the $200 million mark on Tuesday while the fourth installment of the "Jurassic Park" series, "Jurassic World", has made over $514 million, making it the no.1 movie of the year so far.
Despite both film's lack of sparks, its box office earnings are still an improvement to last year's July 4th big screen flicks -Melissa McCarthy's "Tammy" and the sci-fi adventure "Earth to Echo" -which were considered to be Hollywood's worst in decades.
"Magic Mike XXL" co-stars Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Amber Heard, Adam Rodriguez, Donald Glover, Elizabeth Banks, Jada Pinkett Smith and Michael Strahan, alongside Tatum. "Terminator Genisys", on the other hand, features Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, Lee Byung-Hun, J.K Simmons, and Douglas Smith.
