Last July 1, Dreamworks Animation purchased the assets of Classic Media. This move clearly indicates the long term prospects of the movie company specializing in animation and computer graphics imaging. Last Thursday, Dreamworks took it to another level with the purchase of the Troll Doll brand.
The brand was established in 1959 by Thomas Dam and grew to become the most popular toy brands in the world. Dam hand carved the first troll doll as gifts for his daughter on Christmas. From there, the toy brand grew to create several toy lines, television specials and video games. Until today, the troll dolls has become one of the foremost collectible toys in the world.
With the purchase by Dreamworks of the worldwide rights for the toy, the new stage is set. Aside from the Scandinavian territories, Shawn Dennis is the head of brand development for the brand and is now formulating plans to create a revenue stream for its owners.
According to Dreamworks COO Ann Daly, "Trolls is a brand with over fifty years of deep heritage and we are thrilled to bring this iconic, multi-generational property to Dreamworks Animation."
