AirAsia Hiring Pilots for Indian Budget Airlines

By

On Saturday, AirAsia Bhd announced that prior to its launching of the joint venture, they have started hiring India-based captains, first officers and pilots for the Indian budget carrier.

Based on earlier press releases, AirAsia Bhd will own forty nine percent of AirAsia India, the remaining thirty percent will be owned by Tata Group, an Indian conglomerate and remaining twenty one percent is owned by the relative of steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, Arun Bhatia. The Indian government approved AirAsia's investment proposal early this April. They are expected to apply for a license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation soon.

Malaysian Discount carrier's group Chief Executive Tony Fernandes has posted, separately, an announcement in social media websites, Facebook and Twitter inviting interested applicants to submit their application. The announcement on Mr. Fernandes' Facebook wall reads "AirAsia India is taking off," indicating that the closing date for pilots' last day of application to be on April 19 2013. Neither the staff of AirAsia's corporate communications department or Mr. Fernandes himself hastily replied to any inquiries either by email or messages from The Wall Street Journal that is asking for confirmation regarding the matter.

Based on the earlier posted announcement on the company's website, it will be holding interview sessions of applicants for the positions of cabin crew on Saturday and Sunday.
