"Hannibal" season 3 is about to end its first arc of the season and introduce its new big baddie, the Red Dragon. The entrance of the new antagonist will reportedly change the dynamic of Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham's character if the show gets picked up. Showrunners remain hopeful that the story will continue despite getting axed by NBC.
Netflix and Amazon already gave "Hannibal" a pass, says creator and executive producer Bryan Fuller. Fuller took on Twitter the sad news that neither of the two huge streaming services will pick up the show for another season. Mads Mikkelsen, Hannibal Lecter in the series, and Hugh Dancy, who plays Will Graham, were both released from their contracts as well.
But according to Indiewire, the creator and the rest of the team are still optimistic that the story of Hannibal Lecter will continue in any form. If given another season, Fuller teased that the doctor's relationship with Will Graham will significantly change when the Red Dragon enters the show. Richard Armitage will be starring as the new antagonist, Francis Dolarhyde, and his arrival from the show will create an unlikely alliance between Hannibal and the FBI.
Now that the show has been officially cancelled, NBC pushed "Hannibal" to the weekend, giving it a Saturday night slot, reports International Business Times. The change will take effect immediately, causing the next episode titled "Digestivo" to be aired on July 18 instead of July 16.
We previously reported that the upcoming episode 7 will mark the end of the Italy arc of the third season with the possible bloody confrontation of Hannibal, Lecter, and Chiyoh.
Things may not look good for "Hannibal" now that Netflix and Amazon decided that they will not be picking up the show. But showrunner Bryan Fuller and the rest of his team are still looking for other options and even teased the possible storyline of season 4.
