'Doctor Strange', Marvel Studios' upcoming film from its superhero franchise, is set to bring the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to the realm of magic and sorcery. It is the 14th independent installment in the shared universe created by the subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment. Oscar winner Tilda Swinton recently revealed her thoughts on working alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, who is cast in the title role of Doctor Vincent Strange a.k.a. Doctor Strange.
According to Screen Crush, Swinton confirmed that she will be portraying the character called the Ancient One and didn't hesitate to show her excitement about her new role. The Ancient One, traditionally an old Asian Man, is the mentor of both Doctor Strange and his nemesis Baron Mordo.
When asked about her thoughts, she said, "I'm a Marvel fan and I think this particular world that Doctor Strange goes into is really, really, really exciting. I'm really interested as both an actor and a fan to see what's done in this particular world."
In a separate article by Huffington Post, Swinton was asked about how she felt about playing with gender as the Ancient One. She answered, "I have yet to decide exactly where I'm going to place the gender of this character. It's not that I know and I'm not telling you -- I have yet to decide that... It's a really interesting opportunity and I'm really grateful to Marvel for giving it to me because it's going to be an interesting one."
In a piece by Screen Rant, the film, which is part of phase three of MCU could conceivably introduce the idea of astral projection into the fictional cosmos. Phase three aims to explore worlds of mysticism and the supernatural. English actor Chiwetel Ejiofor of '12 Years A Slave' is also joining Swinton and Cumberbatch as the antagonist Baron Mordo.
'Doctor Strange' is set to be released on November 4, 2016. It is a live-action adaptation of a Marvel Comics superhero under the direction of Scott Derrickson.
