The FX Network recently launched their newest TV series entitled "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll" this week. The series was created by Denis Leary who starred in another FX series entitled 'Rescue Me' which he also co-created.
"Sex &Drugs & Rock & Roll" is bringing a splash of 90s rock nostalgia as series creator Denis Leary brings life to the show's main character Johnny Rock, the lead singer of a fictional New York rock band known as The Heathens. The series will begin by taking us through the rise and fall of the band as they miss their ticket to fame after their disbandment which happened to occur on the very same day of the release oftheir highly-anticipated album. Years later, Johnny becomes a washed up artist with little to no money to his name. Luckily for him, Johnny's talented daughter Gigi approaches him, hoping that one day she could be famous just like her father. She bribes her father with money to get his old band back together and to start writing songs for her. The series then brings us to Johnny's new life as a songwriter as well as the new life of his daughter who is steadily making a name for herself in the rock and roll scene.
Aside from the "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll's" reintroduction of the classic rock and roll vibe of the 90s, the sitcom will also be addressing issues of fame and the perceived glamor of celebrity lifestyle throughout its ten-episode run. Elizabeth Gillies, the actress who will be playing the role of Gigi, spoke to Collider about the series and her character. Gillies reveals the parallelisms of her own personality with her character Gigi's personality, particularly about their almost similar primeval determination. She also talks about how her character's desire to sincerely reconnect with her father.
According to The Atlantic, other actors who will also be taking part in the series are the following: John Corbett (who will be playing as The Heathens' former guitarist Flash), Bobby Kelly (who will be playing as the band's former drummer Bam Bam), John Ales, and Elaine Hendrix.
"Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll" will be releasing a new episode each week, with episode two set to come out in the FX Network on July 23. The episode, entitled 'Clean Rockin' Daddy'will be focusing on Gigi's attempt to keep her dad clean and sober while writing songs for their newly formed band, The Assassins.
