KPMG Acquires Makinson Cowell

By

KPMG is in the process of acquiring Makinson Cowell, the London-based corporate advisory firm. This move is designed to answer consumer demand for company assessments on how shareholders and creditors view their firms.

The 'shareholder spring' showed institutional investors at odds with company board members as to matters of executive pay, corporate governance and capital spending including some instances of shareholder revolts against incumbent CEOs.

The acquisition would help companies get a better gauge as shareholder perception and find ways to smooth over those conflicts.

The service that Makinson provides is that it interviews company debt and equity holders and then returns to the management information as to help in decision-making and improved performance.

According to Simon Collins, UK Chairman and Senior Partner at KPMG, "There is such a big debate at the moment about the connectivity between institutional investors and board rooms and auditors, so anything that gives us insight into what drives institutional investors is going to make us a better servant to the capital markets."
