Google's Fiber is destined to be located in Provo, Utah after the search engine giant has entered into an agreement with the city's network for just US$1.
iProvo would be bought out by Google after approval of the Provo City Council. According to an Associated Press report, the existing network would be purchased for just US$1 even though the network is worth US$39 million.
This is a unique way of resolving an issue without being costly as it purchases an existing network. One of the terms of the deal is the requirement that Google would complete the construction of the network as well as upgrade it to allow Provo residents access to gigabit connections. The gigabit connections are said to be a hundred times faster than current broadband speeds.
The city would still pay for the loans that built the network. When Google decides the merger is not viable, it can re-sell the network back to the city for the same dollar. If successful, the city would become the third extension of the Google Fiber city roadmap.
